Objectives of the pilots?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The objective of the pilot experimentation\nphase, was to test and validate the apprenticeship scheme, developed in the\nframework of the DESSA project.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The piloting of the apprenticeship scheme, was combined with the piloting of the self-assessment tool, developed and uploaded on the DESSA platform.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who were the participants in the pilots?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Each VET provider of the consortium, namely\nPIT, IEK DELTA, Friesland College and KSPMC, involved at least 5\nstudents, with a total 20 students. They also involved 2-3\ntutors\/mentors which makes a total of 8-12 mentors. IDEC SA, a company\nfrom Greece which welcomes students every year for apprentices, also\nparticipated in the pilot experimentation.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pilots were conducted from February until\nDecember 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Method used?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the DESSA apprenticeship scheme,\nthe pilots were implemented in four stages: the preparation,\nbefore, during and after the apprenticeship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the preparation\nphase<\/strong>, VET providers made an offer for students and\ncompanies to participate in apprenticeship. Interested students and companies\nexpressed interest to participate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the apprenticeships<\/strong>, VET providers did the matching\nbetween students and companies. Companies appointed mentors and students selected\na natural mentor and used the self-assessment of soft skills, using the DESSA\nplatform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VET providers and Companies together,\nset the objectives of the apprenticeship and prepared an apprenticeship plan\nwith specific learning outcomes. They included hard skills, based on main\nprogram, soft skills, based on self-assessment results and DESSA project\nprogram, and a time plan of all apprenticeship programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the apprenticeship<\/strong>, company trainers used\nthe trainers guide<\/strong>, in order to apply the natural\nmentoring methodology, gamification elements and monitor the progress of the\nstudents.  Mentors also consulted the trainers\nguide<\/strong>, to find examples of how to motivate apprentices to develop soft\nskills.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students consulted the trainings guide<\/strong> and\npicked at least five assignments, which they worked on during their\ninternship.  Students also were prompt to\nread the orientation guide and<\/strong> use the logbook<\/strong> provided,\nto see their progress in developing their soft skills.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the\napprenticeships<\/strong>, students completed the self-assessment tool<\/strong> again\nand discussed the results with their mentor.  Students and mentors completed\nthe final evaluation form<\/strong>, to document the impact from the DESSA\napprenticeship.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, VET providers completed the final report on pilots<\/strong>, based on the results from the questionnaires completed by mentors and students, before and after the apprenticeship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was it a success? <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The use of the DESSA tools, resulted in the development of the student\u2019s soft skills, according to the final evaluation report, from all parties that participated in the process. Thus, we can say that the piloting experimentation phase was a huge success.
